The main enhancement for version 1.4.8 is the addition of support for doubles.

The support for doubles consists of being able to select a doubles match, as opposed to a singles match, which will then trigger the display not only which team is serving but if the first or second server on that team is serving.   It also includes the ability to switch servers and servers within double teams via the phone app.

Let’s walk through the changes.  After selecting to start the match either receiving or serving, a new choice screen pops up asking if you are playing doubles or singles as opposed to the old version which simply started the match.

Let’s assume you initially had selected ‘Start Serve’.  If you select singles on the second screen, the watch displays the current singles scoring display as you see on the left.  However, if you select doubles on the second screen, the display now contains an additional element as shown on the right:

Notice that the doubles server indicator shows an S1 as opposed to an S.  This indicates that the first server on your team is now serving.

If you had selected that you are receiving instead, you’d see this:

That means that you are receiving and the first server on your opponent’s team is serving.

Assuming that you started with your team serving, the service indicator would change as shown below.

When you are serving, the serving indicator will show an S1 or an S2 with the number indicating who on your team is serving.  When the other team is serving, it will show an R1 or an R2.  The R indicates you are receiving and the number indicates which player on your opponents team is serving.

Tiebreaks work the same way.

Where this might start to get confusing is when you decide to change who is serving via the phone app and send that data back down to the watch.  The adjust score screen has some new buttons on it now.

The server button has been expanded into two buttons now.  There’s one for which team is serving (you or your opponents) and a separate one for indicating if the first server is serving or the second server is serving.  In singles during regular play, those buttons do not appear.  Only the serving player button is active:

For singles tiebreak, the tiebreak buttons becomes active but the regular serving play button, while being shown, can not be toggled.   The inactive regular serving button refers to the regular match in progress while the tie break server button refers to the current tie break server only.

For regular doubles, the tiebreak buttons don’t appear but both regular game buttons appear.

For a doubles tiebreak, all four buttons appear.  Again, the regular match buttons are greyed out.

Use the ‘Get’ button to retrieve the current match information from the watch.  Here are samples of what you should see in the doubles screen in different situations:

S1 translates into the team button being on because you are serving and the player button is on because the first player on your team is serving

R1 translates into the team button being off because your opponents are serving and the player button is on because the first player on their team is serving

R2 translates into the team button being off because your opponents are serving and the player button is off because the second player on their team is serving

S2 translates into the team button being on because you are serving and the player button is off because the second player on your team is serving

To adjust the server, use the ‘Get’ button to transfer the game score and status to the phone, make your changes on the phone, then use the ‘Update’ button to change the game on the watch.

It works the same way on the doubles tiebreak but instead of using the regular match buttons, the tiebreak buttons become active and are used instead.  The following shows how that works.

Again to adjust the match, use the ‘Get’ button to transfer the game score and status to the phone, make your changes on the phone, then use the ‘Update’ button to change the game on the watch.

That covers the changes made for this version of the app.  Next cut will include support for single set variable number of game matches as played in some tennis leagues.
